Why I’m Sick Of ‘SEO Is Dying’ Posts

SEO Is Dead Grave StoneGuest Post - Our host is Jessica, In this post Jessica gives her opinion on why SEO is not on the way out.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

Every day it appears some self-appointed ‘expert’ has declared the industry of SEO dead on its knees, this time next year we’ll all be flipping burgers, stacking shelves or asking people if they’d like a copy of The Big Issue. Whilst I don’t have the advantage of having a time machine (some guy with floppy hair wearing a bow tie stole it) I think we really do have to stop with the doom and gloom before it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Why Is SEO always about to die ?

SEO Checklist Before You Start A New Blog

Guest Post - Our host is Pablo, in this post he has some tips for people starting a new blog.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

To me it’s still amazing that a cms like Wordpress can build you a professional looking site in a few minutes, my first site was built in Microsoft Frontpage and involved many long nights and a few tears! However just because it’s now easier to build a website doesn’t mean it’s easier to create one that is ultimately successful and makes money, because the success of a site is often down to the competition it faces from similar sites in the marketplace. The problem is that many webmasters assume that just because they have an attractive site with quality content that they will automatically rank at the top of Google for their chosen keywords. I’m not saying that good content won’t rise to the top but it can take quite a while to happen on its own and if your competition is established and also providing the information people are looking for where does that leave you?

How I Used Industry Leaders On Twitter To Spike My Blog Traffic

Guest Post - Our host is Nick Steeves, Here Nick shows us how he has managed to get huge brands promoting his content.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

So you’ve got a blog and you’re picking away at the basics - getting backlinks, optimizing your tags and meta-data and posting to but you’ve yet to see any major spikes in traffic. There are people out there with established audiences which you would love to tap into, but how? These people are bombarded with requests at all hours - how do you get their attention?

Flattery is Your Best Weapon

Everyone loves to share a glowing review about themselves, and thought leaders are no exception.Talking about why someone is successful and how others can emulate them to be successful will get you a much quicker shout-out than simply soliciting one by telling them why you’re so great.

I have done this successfully with a number of large brands on Twitter - most notably DKNY who retweeted me (@GetLocalShopprs) each of the three times I tweeted them over the course of several months.

Foreign Search Engines and Your Blog: How to Optimize Smoothly

Globe With LaptopsGuest Post - Our host is

Being that Google controls nearly 60 percent of the search market, many blog owners put their focus on optimization entirely on this search engine—and rightfully so. People from all over the world use Google and translate Google results into their own language, so finding your way to the top is great for businesses. However, it is important to put your focus on your audience, and not the entire search market. In other words, although 60 percent of searches may be completed on Google, 90 percent of your search might be performed somewhere else. This then begs the question: What’s the deal with foreign search engines?

How And Why To Ping Your Blog Posts

Blog Ping LogoAlthough search engines will eventually find and crawl your latest blog posts there are some steps you can take to speed up the process.Simply sharing your latest posts on social networks can help as search engines can follow links on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ ect..One of the best ways to let search engines know you have updated is by Pinging them.

What Is Pinging

When you ping your latest blog post you are telling search engines directly that you have new content on your site. Most ping services will update among others Google Blog Search, Weblogs, Feedburner, Blo.gs and Icerocket.

Popular Ping Services

How To Ping

With most ping services you enter the page or post title and URL an ping. Some allow you to submit multiple URL's while some also let you add a description. It is important you only Ping your website or blog when you add new content as pinging when nothing new is there to crawl can be seen as spam.

So while Pinging alone wont necessarily help your sites search engine rank it will help your content get found by Google, Bing and others.

Content And Blog Marketing In The Post-Penguin Era

Google Pengiun LogoGuest Post - Our host is Jenny Rasmussen, who looks at Blogging and SEO in the wake of the Google Penguin algorithm change.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

With the “Penguin” update that launched on April 22, Google changed the search engine optimization (or “SEO”) game more significantly than ever before. Originally announced as a means to penalize webmasters who had over-optimized their webpages and link building efforts, the Penguin filter is now here to stay and ignoring its effects could cause your blog and website to plummet in Google’s search results.

So – what is the answer? How can a blogger continue to rank highly on Google and Bing without resorting to the SEO tactics of yesteryear? Let’s take a look at content – in the form of images, videos or written pieces – and how it can greatly improve your inbound traffic and where you show up in the search results.

Organic Link Building vs. Paid Link Building

SEO Link Building ExplainedGuest Post - Today's host is Kate Croston, who explains and compares link building techniques.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

Link building is a pretty well-known tactic around the world of blogs and websites for being a good way to help escalate your search engine rankings and direct traffic to your blog or website. However the term “link building” is also a little vague, and there is a vast difference between two of the more common link building techniques: organic link building and paid link building. If you’re wondering what the difference between the two is then read on:

Organic Link Building

What It Is:

In layman’s terms, organic link building is the act of getting your links placed on other people’s sites because you have provided good, quality content and people want to share your content and website with others.

How It Happens

You can get links placed organically through different tactics such as:

1. Writing high quality posts on your own blog or website that resonates with readers, causing them to share them on their own sites or through social media.

2. Social media is a great tool for sharing your links, and sharing them quickly. It’s easy for others to read your post on a social media site and then share it with their followers, making your link spread like wildfire throughout the social media world.

3. By providing well-written guest posts for other people’s blogs and websites that have a higher Page Rank than you do. When you provide an exceptional post for them they in turn include a link to your blog at the end of the post, which will likely cause their audience to visit your site.

4. Through leaving comments on other people’s blog. This will usually result in other commenter’s visiting your site, finding the content you have to offer, and then sharing it based on its validity and value.

The Results

Organic link building is the best way to build links throughout the web because it’s based on providing something valuable to the consumer. The major search engines look favorably on links obtained organically, and this will help increase your page rank, search engine visibility, and your reputation in your specific niche.

Paid Link Building

What It Is

Paid link building, on the other hand, is exactly what it sounds like. You pay someone else to place a link on their site. The link placement is based on the payout and not necessarily the actual quality of the content of what you’ve written.

How It Happens

It’s a fairly straightforward process; you find someone that is willing to accept money for link placement, something that is usually done on a recurring monthly basis, and then you pay them for placing your link. There’s a lot of controversy surrounding paid link building, however, and it’s a practice that’s frowned upon by the major search engines.

The Results

You will get some of the same benefits from paid link building as you do organic link building such as increased visibility and higher page rank, making it advantageous at first. But it’s important to note that you can also end up getting punished by the search engines if you’re caught engaging in paid link building because it’s seen as an unfair advantage. You didn’t achieve that link through providing useful content, but instead because you paid someone, and that can be seen in an unfavorable light because it’s unfair to the people who actually worked hard and provided well-written, quality content to achieve a link.

So do you choose one or the other?

If you’re looking for a way to build links then the safer, albeit slower, way to go is by honestly obtaining links through organic link building. Paid link building may give you an initial boost in traffic and page rank, but the consequences could result in an ultimately lower page rank, something that could be detrimental to your website. Organic link building, on the other hand, may take longer to establish but will end up holding its value over time.

In April, Google launched the Penguin algorithm aimed to detecting and filtering out websites and blogs classified as ‘spam’ from its search results. A month later, Google released an update to the Penguin algorithm to identify and blacklist websites which violate its quality guidelines.

While implementing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a standard practice for websites and blogs, the Penguin update is aimed at scrutinizing over optimization and spamming. As a blog owner, if you’ve adopted over-optimization techniques, there’s a good chance that the Penguin update has already hit your blog.

Fundamental Link Building Practices to Boost Your Search Engine Rankings in Google

Google SEO LOGO
Guest Post By Johan Hedin, See How You Can Become A Guest Author .

We hear the entire buzz about getting back links over the web, but why are links so important to gain higher search engine rankings? First of all, links allow the search engines to find and index your website in the search engine databases. Second, high quality links help drive direct traffic and give the search engines an indicator of the importance of your website. The amount, the quality (trust), and the relevance of back links, will reveal many important signals to the search engines to determine the order of ranking. Obviously, Google cares first about its users, which are their utmost priority. All their technology is based on this philosophy. The more and the better they are able to satisfy their users, the more they will increase their market share (to sell more Adwords ads). They don’t want to ruin their SERPs with useless spam. This is why links from trusted websites are so important. The more trust the more and better rankings you will get.

In order to rank higher, you have to understand how Google places value on links. Each link is counted as a vote, but not all links are created equal meaning that not every link’s value is counted the same. If a link is deemed as high quality, it will pass on more link juice and therefore help your website gain higher ranking positions (compared to lower quality links). This means that getting a few links from really established and trusted websites (a.k.a. authority websites) is worth much more than a big quantity of low quality links. This brings us to the next point.
