Five Fresh Free And Premium WordPress Plugins

WordPress Logo With Plug Plugin LogoGuest Post - Our host is Amy Edwards, In this post Amy has listed some of her favorite new WordPress plugins.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

Whether you’re an amateur blogger that’s just trying your hand at blogging because you’ve been bullied into it or you’re an experienced blogger that gets paid to blog for a living, there’s a good chance WordPress is your platform of choice.

First established in 2003 as a single piece of code to enhance the typography of everyday writing, WordPress has grown from a handle of users to millions of users in less than 10 years and it’s not hard to see why. Easy to use, adapt and 100% free, WordPress is constantly being developed by the Open-Source community which means it’s actually improving week on week. Its simple design means it can be used for anything from a Fortune 500 website to a personal blog, while its hundreds (if not thousands!) of themes make it easy to personalize and manage.

Another massive draw of WordPress is its extensive back catalogue of Plugins. A bit like an app for your smartphone, a Plugin is simply a tool or mini programme which you can download to your WP blog or website to carry out a certain task or feature. Like I said earlier, WP is constantly being developed and its Plugins are no different. Most WP Plugins are free to download and easy to install on your personal blog or website and the active WP community means it’s usually pretty easy to find a Plugin which is effective and has good rankings.

Although the WP community is pretty active when it comes to new releases, it can still be pretty hard to keep up with the latest Plugin releases – according to WP, there are currently nearly 20,500 Plugins currently available on the platform! Now, while I can’t give you a run-down of the entire 20,500 Plugins on the market, I can give you a quick run-down of my top 5 WP Plugin picks for 2012.

iOS Blogging Apps That Will Make Your Blog Popular !

Guest Post - Today's host is John Page, who talks about the best choices for IOS Blogging Apps.See How To Become a guest author on Spice Up Your Blog.

Do you remember those good old days when blogging was just for fun? I can hardly find a decent blog nowadays because even the best of them turn to be the part of the “industry” where practically every blogger is obsessed with earning more money from his blog instead of publishing some interesting blogs just to stimulate people for talking. Making money by means of blogging is not bad for sure. I just appeal to all bloggers to make update their blogs not just for the higher search engine ranks but for posting really interesting ideas that may be helpful for their readers. For instance, in this particular post I’m going to share my own top 4 of nifty blogging iOS applications that were designed by bloggers for bloggers, so to speak. In the picture you see my favorite WordPress for iOS application.

Personally before I bought my first iPhone I was quite irritated by the fact that I cannot update my blog with few new pics or notes whenever I want even if there is no a laptop or PC at fingertips. Luckily, with the development of iOS apps such problem is easily solved since there are so many good blogging programs are offered via the iTunes service. It is quite a challenge to find the best blogging iOS apps because there are few very good and plenty of decent. Plus all blogging can be divided into subcategories – for analytics, SEO, microblogging, social networking sharing or editing content. That is why I decided to create my own list of the best blogging applications that can be used by every blogger despite his preferences and purposes.

How To Add Colorful Css Animations To BuySellAds Banners

I'm sure you will all have noticed the effect i have added to the BuySellAds.Com ad banners on this blog.I think the effect is awesome and brings more attention to the ads which keep our advertisers happy. The first time i seen this type of effect was on the awesome Css Tricks by Chris Coyier. With the help Of Harish from Custom Blogger Templates and Way2Blogging i managed to get a version for this blog.I have had many requests for the code in the past but as the idea was originally from Chris i was slow to share it.However as Css Tricks no longer use the effect and i have seen it used on lots of other blogs which i presumed viewed the source of this blog to copy the code I think it's the right time to do a tutorial. The effect is created using only Css.

Remember this is set up to work only with ads and Advertise Here banners from BuySellAds.Com.For the 125x125 banners your sidebar will need to be at least 300px wide.Wordpress and other users can add the Css from the scroll box below to their style sheet , below i have a Blogger tutorial.

Tips And Plug-ins To Secure Your WordPress Blog

Guest Post By Alfred Richards

WordPress is an open source blogging website that appeals to bloggers of all kinds for the many different features the website has to offer. Hackers have become increasingly common over the past few years and many people don’t secure their WordPress blog until it’s too late. Chances of an unsecured blog being attacked by a hacker are high. Many people don’t realize the extent of the damage that a hacker could cause. A blogger’s work can be completely destroyed and erased. If the blogger doesn’t have a copy of their work backed up anywhere else, their work could be gone forever.

Hackers could also have the blog placed on Google’s Blacklist, which would make the website no longer show up in search results. A blog attack could take days to completely fix, and while the blog is down, no new customers or readers will be able to view the website. Luckily though, there are numerous ways to secure a WordPress website. Some of the easiest and most important ways a person can secure their website are:

Secure the website with a strong password - It is important to come up with a good password that will make it nearly impossible for a hacker to gain access. Make sure your password is more than eight characters. Use uppercase and lowercase letters and include numbers to make it even more challenging.

Keep WordPress and plug-ins updated - When the WordPress software and your available plug-ins have been updated, this ensures that you have the software with the least amount of bugs. Having less bugs will ensure additional security.

Use only the most necessary plug-ins - Ask yourself if a plug-in is really necessary before using it. Adding too many can increase your chances of being hacked.

Use only a webhost with a reputable company - If you use a trusted webhost company, chances of being attacked are lowered. Always read reviews before choosing a webhost.

Always have backup plan in case of an attack - Having a backup plan is one of the most important things a blog owner can do. If the blog owner’s work is backed up, even if a hacker strikers, the blog owner’s work is not gone forever.

Plug-ins For Added Wordprss Security

There are also a variety of different plug-ins that can be used for added security on a website. These plug-ins detect malware and any hacker activity. They will keep a website from being blacklisted. The plug-ins will keep the blog content safe from hackers and will fix any issues that are found. They will also give the user alerts that will always keep the user updated with any threats or suspicious activity. Some of the available free plug-ins are:

  1. Server Buddy
  2. Limit Login Attempts
  3. WP Security Scan
  4. Login Lockdown
  5. WordPress Exploit Scanner
  6. Stealth Login

Whether or not your blog is intended to just gain readers or if your blog is a way of making money, it’s important to secure your blog before it’s too late. Many believe there is no way a hacker will ever strike their blog, but if the blog is unsecured, it’s not a question of “if” the hacker will attack, but “when”.

A Simple Way To Use A Drop Cap Large First Letter On Your Blog

A very popular effect used in magazines and newspapers is a drop cap first letter to paragraphs. This effect can also be found on many blogs and websites. The effect is a large first letter stretching down three or four lines with the text wrapped around. The drop cap letter can also use a different font and can be a different color to the rest of the text.Almost two years ago i published a post showing how to add a Drop Cap to your blog, in this post i have an even easier more effective method. This method needs just a few lines of Css to be added to your template then the first letter of every post on your blog will automatically be a drop cap.You can then choose the color and font of the drop cap.Check out the Blogger screenshot, demo and tutorial below.Wordpress users can use the Wordpress Drop Cap Plugin.
